According to the China Sewing Machinery Association, the production of industrial and household sewing machines during January-May 2019 decreased compared to the same period of last year. Exports also grew at a small rate.
The production of major apparel machinery makers during the first five months of this year fell 13.2% from the year before to 2,490,022 machines. The production of industrial sewing machines dropped 15.7% to 1,733,327, and that of household sewing machines decreased by 5.9% to 574,874. The production of related equipment declined by 9.1% to 189,820.
Major apparel machinery makers posted sales of approximately 7,283 million yuan, down 10.1% compared to January-May 2018.
May 2019 ending stocks of the 234 enterprises which had annual sales of 20 million yuan or greater amounted to 2,652 million yuan, up 11.7%. While stocks of industrial sewing machines climbed 49.4% to 581,070, those of household sewing machines decreased by 8.7% to 88,420, along with those of related equipment by 22.0% to 20,874 machines.
January-May 2019 exports rose by 1.6% to 982.91 million yuan.
