According to revised statistics released from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the nation’s production of nonwoven fabrics in September 2018 decreased by 5.5% compared to the same month in 2017 to 27,202 tons. Production decreased in all categories except for needle-punched and wet-laid types. The production of spunbonded/meltblown nonwovens continued to fall with a 12.9% decrease, as producers continued to relocate their production abroad. Needle-punched nonwoven fabric production slightly rose by 0.1% to 6,143 tons.
According to METI’s revised production statistics, Japanese production of disposable diapers in September 2018 decreased by 3.0% in terms of weight from the year before to 72,108 tons, as well as by 6.4% in number to 1,878.20 million. Babies’ diaper production fell 8.5% in weight to 39,288 tons, and by 9.7% in number to 1,218.21 million. Meanwhile, the production of diapers for adults increased by 3.5% and 0.4% respectively to 32,820 tons and 660 million.
