According to export statistics as compiled by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Textiles based on statistics released from the Census and Statistics Department, the region’s re-exports of textiles and apparel during January-April 2020 dropped 29.1% year-on-year to HK$32,689 million. Compared to the decrease in 2019 annual exports, the drop was 16.9 percentage points greater. The drop in re-exports was attributable to the impact of the coronavirus.

January-April re-exports of apparel fell 35.1% to HK$18,599 million, and those of textiles (yarns, fabrics and made-ups) declined by 19.2% to HK$14,090 million.

Re-exports to the four main markets of the U.S., Mainland China, EU/U.K. and ASEAN 10 nations decreased across the board.
