According to the Japan Chain Stores Association (58 firms, 10,343 stores), same-store sales in October 2018 decreased by 0.7% compared to the same month of last year to 1,064,149 million yen.

While sales of food were strong, apparel and household goods suffered from the warm weather.

October apparel sales fell 11.0% to 79,551 million yen. Sales of men’s wear dropped 13.4% to 15,559 million yen, along with those of women’s wear by 12.1% to 22,012 million yen and other garments (including footwear and accessories) by 9.5% to 41,980 million yen.

In men’s wear, sales of suits, slacks, jackets and outerwear were sluggish.

As for women’s wear, sales were slow for jackets, bootscut pants and cut-and sewn articles.

In the category of other garments, sales were low for innerwear, babies’s wear and shoes for men and women.
