Japanese textile and apparel exports during January-October 2017, as compiled by the Japan Textiles Exporters Association based on Ministry of Finance trade statistics, decreased by 2% year-on-year to US$6,160.20 million.

Exports to East Asia declined by 2% to US$5,471.28 million, of which those to China were down 5% to US$2,356.17 million, accounting for about 30% of the total export value.

Exports to Vietnam continued to be strong with a 12% growth to US$886.78 million (12% share).

Exports to the EU decreased by 5% to US$806.56 million (11% share), and those to North America declined by 5% to US$621.50 million (8% share).

By item, exports of nylon filament yarn remained strong with a 16% growth in quantity to 36,480 tons, and the value rose by 6% to US$216.63 million.

Exports of polyester filament fabrics remained about the same as the year before at 197.43 million square meters, but the value decreased by 2% to US$455.05 million. Exports of spun synthetic fabrics decreased by 3% in volume and 7% in value to 110.36 million square meters worth US$268.04 million.
