Japan’s Cotton Fabric Imports Drop 12.8% in H1

According to import statistics compiled by the Japan Spinners’ Association based on Ministry of Finance trade statistics, cotton fabric imports during January-June 2019 dropped 12.8% year-on-year to 114.70 million square meters. Imports decreased from the major suppliers of China and Indonesia.

Imports from China fell 23.9% to 45.62 million square meters, and those from Indonesia dropped 18.1% to 25.19 million square meters, as the Japanese domestic market lacked vigor for an upswing. Meanwhile, imports from Pakistan rose by 1.2% to 25.94 million square meters.

Imports of polyester/cotton blended fabrics increased by 3.3% to 44.77 million square meters, due to firm demand for application in uniforms.
