According to the Japan Chemical Fibers Association, the nation’s production of manmade fibers in March 2020 decreased by 5.9% compared to the same month of last year to 66,937 tons (provisional). Of this, synthetic fibers fell 10.3% to 52,645 tons.
While March production of cellulosic fibers grew by 14.9% to 14,292 tons, that of nylon filament dropped 19.7% to 5,204 tons, along with acrylic staple fiber by 16.6% to 9,066 tons (down for the fifth consecutive month), polyester filament by 10.6% to 9,202 tons, and polyester staple fiber by 11.7% to 6,688 tons.
MMF production during January-March 2020 declined by 6.3% year-on-year to 193,514 tons, of which synthetic fibers decreased by 10.4% to 146,356 tons. Cellulosic fiber production grew by 9.3% during the quarter to 47,158 tons.
