According to the Japan Chemical Fibers Association, the nation’s production of manmade fibers in April 2020 decreased by 6.7% compared to the same month of last year to 67,360 tons (provisional). Of this, synthetic fibers declined by 6.2% to 52,438 tons.
Cellulosic fiber production decreased by 8.6% to 14,922 tons, and that of nylon filament dropped 12.9% to 5,644 tons, along with acrylic staple fiber by 22.8% to 8,237 tons. Polyester filament production was down 11.9% to 8,696 tons, while that of polyester staple fiber climbed 18.4% to 7,169 tons.
April end stocks of MMF fibers amounted to 95,974 tons, up 9.3% from the previous month and up 4.8% compared to April 2019 end stocks.
