Japan’s MMF Production Down 3.1% in August

The Japan Chemical Fibers Association reported that the nation’s production of man-made fibers in August 2017 decreased by 3.1% compared to the same month of last year to 78,280 tons. Of this, synthetic fibers declined by 5.2% to 62,124 tons.

The production of cellulosic fibers increased by 5.8% to 16,156 tons.

Production decreased for all four major synthetic fiber items: nylon filament, 8,545 tons (down 0.2%); acrylic staple fiber, 10,333 tons (down 8.8%); polyester filament, 10,157 tons (down 6.6%); and polyester staple fiber, 8,451 tons (down 9.2%).

One of the factors for the production decrease is the rise in stocks.

MMF production during the first eight months of this year decreased by 1.5% year-on-year to 613,489 tons, of which synthetic fibers declined by 4.6% to 489,395 tons.
