Toray Industries, Inc. announced its decision to install prototype equipment to develop higher value spunbonded fabrics in Japan.

Establishing this facility at its Shiga Plant, the company will start its operation in November 2017. Toray will utilize the equipment for developing specialty spunbonded fabrics for hygiene applications, such as disposable diapers, as well as for improving productivity throughout the group and expanding initiatives targeting the high value-added market.

The Toray Group has been continuously expanding the production capacities of its plants in Korea, China and Indonesia in response to robust demand for polypropylene spunbonded fabrics, and is establishing a stronger supply structure as one of the largest suppliers in Asia.

The installation of prototype equipment in Japan will further strengthen the group’s collaboration with key customers in Japan, and accelerate the development of higher value materials that address customer requirements in both performance and cost.

In the Medium-Term Management Program, Project AP-G 2019 launched this month, Toray lists the expansion of nonwoven fabric business as one of the important tasks of the Fibers & Textiles Business.

The company will capture vigorous demand, and will aim to further enlarge its whole nonwoven fabric business by expanding both global polypropylene spunbonded fabric supply and development capabilities in Japan for higher value products.
