According to export figures compiled by the Japan Sewing Machinery Manufacturers Association (JASMA) on the basis of Ministry of Finance trade statistics, the nation’s exports of industrial sewing machines during January-September 2016 decreased by 0.2% in quantity and 0.6% in value year-on-year to 114,287 worth 26,798.28 million yen.
Exports of automatic machines increased by 16.6% and 7.5% respectively to 22,007 valued at 11,226.45 million yen, but those of other types decreased by 3.5% and 5.7% respectively to 92,280 valued at 15,571.83 million yen.
By region, exports to East Asia were down 8.7% and 22.5% respectively to 27,209 valued at 7,192.81 million yen, while those to Southeast and South Asia grew by 8.9% and 21.9% respectively to 54,319 worth 13,066.57 million yen.
Japan’s production of industrial sewing machines was also firm during the first nine months of this year, and increased by 0.7% in quantity and 0.8% in value year-on-year to 76,977 worth 22,913 million yen.
