Asia’s leading environmental event EcoPro 2016 (International Exhibition on Environment and Energy) was held from December 8th to 10th at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo.
Organized by the Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry, this exhibition, in which Japanese synthetic fiber producers participated, attracted 167,000 visitors during the three days. What was remarkable this time was that elementary and junior high school students have become more environmentally conscious, and asked many pointed questions to the exhibitors.
From this 18th holding, the name of the exhibition was changed to EcoPro from Eco-Products, with “Global Warming Countermeasures and Environmental Consciousness” and “Clean Energy and Smart Society” set as two major themes. Exhibitors from the fiber and textile sector included Asahi Kasei Corp.; Kuraray Co., Ltd.; Teijin Limited; Toyobo Co., Ltd.; Toray Industries, Inc.; and the Japan Chemical Fibers Association.
Asahi Kasei exhibited under the three themes of textiles, automotives and electronics, and introduced art flowers made from Bemberg. The theme of Kuraray’s exhibition was “Kuraray Eco Park – Kuraray Ecotourism”. Teijin showed recycled polyester fibers and so on.
Toyobo promoted its environmental activities in response to widespread environmental awareness. Toray exhibited Kevlar para-type aramid fiber and flame-shielding fabrics. The Japan Chemical Fibers Association showed smart textiles with sensor and information transfer functions.
