According to a trade bulletin released from China’s General Administration of Customs, the nation’s exports of textiles and apparel in 2016 decreased by 7.5% from the previous year to US$262,450 million (provisional), thus decreasing for the second consecutive year.
The decrease was 2.6 percentage points greater than the decrease in 2015 exports, which decreased for the first time in six years.
2016 exports of textiles declined by 4.1% to US$104,990 million, and those of apparel were down 9.6% to US$157,460 million. The decreases were respectively 1.8 and 3.2 percentage points greater than the previous year.
December 2016 textile and apparel exports fell 13.0% compared to the same month of the previous year to US$23,440 million: textiles, US$9,160 million (down 6.6%) and apparel, US$14,280 million (down 16.7%).
