According to export statistics as compiled by the Japan Textiles Exporters Association based on Ministry of Finance trade statistics, April textile and apparel exports fell 19% compared to the same month of last year to US$547.64 million.
April exports decreased for the categories of fibers, yarns and woven and knitted fabrics, and the only category increasing was nonwoven fabrics.
Textile and apparel exports during January-April 2020 decreased by 5% year-on-year to US$2,384.03 million.
By destination, April exports to East Asia dropped 20% to 394.18 million. Exports to China fell 18% to US$160.57 million. Exports to Vietnam were also down 25% to US$75.38 million.
