Toray Industries, Inc. and Refineverse Group, Inc. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deepen their collaboration in developing recycled nylon 66 resin from airbag scraps.
Under this partnership, Refineverse will be responsible for collecting airbags, removing silicone coatings, washing, and repelletizing, while Toray will handle compound formulation design and mass production. Together, they aim to accelerate the development of recycled nylon 66 resin.
To minimize residual contaminants in the nylon 66 resin, both companies are optimizing the processes of silicone removal, washing, and repelletizing. Their goal is to produce recycled resin with higher purity than conventional products. They also plan to establish a domestic supply chain that reuses airbags recovered from scrapped vehicles for automotive applications.
