According to the Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA), U.S. imports of textiles and apparel in 2017 increased by 3.24% over the previous year to 64,887.93 million square meter equivalents (MSME). In value, imports rose by 1.27% to US$105,992.45 million.
Imports of textiles rose 5.08% to 37,769.03 MSME, and those of apparel were up 0.79% to 27,118.90 MSME. In value, textile imports grew by 7.19% to US$25,705.64 million, while those of apparel were down 0.49% to US$80,286.81 million.
Textile and apparel imports from China increased by 5.36% to 31,711.75 MSME with the value rising 0.58% to US$38,741 million. Imports of Chinese-made apparel grew by 1.80% to 11,365.25 MSME, but the value decreased by 3.17% to US$27,030.47 million.
