According to March 2018 Japanese apparel import statistics, as compiled by The Japan Textiles Importers Association based on Ministry of Finance trade statistics, the value fell 20.2% compared to March 2017 imports to 193,163 million yen, and the volume also dropped 18.1% to 312.3 million units.
Imports of knitwear were down 20.5% to 90,434 million yen, and the volume declined by 17.3% to 206.9 million units. Those of woven garments fell 20.0% to 102,729 million yen with the volume decreasing by 19.7% to 105.4 million units.
March imports from China decreased in both value and volume: 103,326 million yen (down 30.7%) and 183.3 million units (down 27.1%).
As for imports from ASEAN, those from Myanmar continued to grow. The share of Myanmar in imports from ASEAN was 30.3% in value and 28.7% in volume.
