Asahi Kasei Corporation is reinforcing its sales structure for fiber-related materials, aiming to expand its market presence. The company announced plans to restore production of its cupro fiber “Bemberg” to 90% of pre-fire levels by January 2026—earlier than initially scheduled. Production of staple fibers is also set to increase early next year.

The Bemberg plant suffered a fire in April 2022, significantly reducing output. Recovery efforts have progressed steadily, with production in the first half of fiscal 2025 (April–September) expected to reach 70–75% of pre-fire levels. Originally slated for full recovery in fiscal 2026, the timeline has now been moved forward.

Sales of Bemberg filament fibers have been strong globally, particularly for outerwear, while lining materials continue to perform well in the domestic market. “We will operate at 90% capacity for the time being, but may consider expanding if demand grows,” said Akira Nishizawa, Executive Officer overseeing the Comfort Life business.

Bemberg Staple fibers have gained popularity in face mask applications and are increasingly used in outerwear and innerwear as composite materials with cotton and polyester. Nishizawa confirmed that production will be ramped up early next year to meet growing demand.

Meanwhile, the company’s polyurethane elastic fiber “Roica” faces global oversupply. Asahi Kasei has completed development of sustainable yarns and is preparing for market launch at an appropriate time.

In collaboration with Mitsui Chemicals , Inc. through their joint venture Mitsui Chemicals Asahi Life Materials Co., Ltd., Asahi Kasei has developed spunbond nonwoven fabrics for hygiene products by integrating both companies’ technologies. “We’ve already seen synergies in production and quality control. Going forward, we aim to generate further synergies in product development,” Nishizawa added.
