On November 26, Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd. announced that it had reached an agreement to acquire all shares of Toyobo Co., Ltd.’s Chinese subsidiary, Toyobo Automotive Textiles (Changshu) Co., Ltd. (located in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, abbreviated as TAC), which manufactures and sells airbag base fabrics. The share transfer agreement was signed on the same day, with the transfer scheduled for February 2026.
Teijin Frontier has been considering business expansion in China, the world’s largest automobile market, in response to increasing demand for airbags driven by rising safety awareness. Meanwhile, Toyobo has been promoting the consolidation of its airbag business operations in Thailand as part of its restructuring and strengthening strategy. With both companies’ directions aligned, the share transfer agreement was concluded.
Through the acquisition of TAC, Teijin Frontier aims to further expand its airbag business by leveraging TAC’s textile processing technologies and its sales network in the Chinese market, as part of its broader strategy to strengthen global development in mobility-related businesses.
TAC was established in April 2011. Toyobo currently operates in Thailand with a fully integrated production system for airbags, through joint ventures with Indorama Ventures subsidiaries: Toyobo Indorama Advanced Fibers Company Limited (TIAF) , which produces airbag yarn, and Toyobo Saha Safety Weave Co., Ltd. (TSSW), which manufactures airbag base fabrics. Going forward, Toyobo plans to meet diverse customer needs from its Thailand base, targeting not only Asia but also global markets.
