According to a Japan Textiles Exporters Association report based on Ministry of Finance trade statistics, October 2016 exports of textiles and apparel dropped 6% compared to the same month of last year to US$669.61 million.

The January-October 2016 aggregate decreased by 3% year-on-year to US$6,313.16 million.
By category, October exports of textile fibers fell 39% in volume and 47% in value to 18,085 tons worth US$64.26 million. Yarn exports decreased by 4% in both volume and value to 10,068 tons worth US$83.01 million. Woven and knitted fabric exports declined by 8% and 1% respectively to 81.73 million sq. meters worth US$264.37 million.

By destination, the October value of exports to East Asia decreased by 3% to US$563.80 million. Exports to China fell 6% to US$221.47 million, whereas those to Vietnam, Korea, Thailand and Indonesia posted growths.
Exports to Europe dropped 13% to US$64.16 million, along with those to North America by 9% to US$49.34 million.
