Japan’s April MMF Production Increases 2.8%

The Japan Chemical Fibers Association reported that the nation’s man-made fiber production in April 2017 increased by 2.8% over the same month of last year to 79,590 tons. Of this, synthetic fiber production decreased by 3.1% to 62,680 tons, while that of cellulosic fibers grew by 33.0% to 16,910 tons. Among major synthetic fiber items, production decreased for polyester staple fiber (down 17.3% to 7,885 tons), as Japanese producers are undertaking structural reforms. Production increased for nylon filament (up 9.5% to 8,246 tons), acrylic staple fiber (up 1.3% to 11,873 tons) and polyester filament (up 0.5% to 8,246 tons). Vietnam’s Textile & Apparel Exports Grow 12.4% in Q1

According to the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), the nation’s exports of textiles and apparel during January-March 2017 grew by 12.4% year-on-year to US$6,750 million. Exports to newly emerging markets posted strong growths, such as for Russia (up 115%), Singapore (up 36%) and for Brazil and India (up 34% each). Exports to the U.S., EU and other conventional markets rose at rates of 6.3-6.4%. VITAS indicates that while exports of conventional products rose by 13-17%, those of relatively new items including swimwear, raincoats and scarves grew at rates of 18-41%.
