Japan’s Nonwoven Fabric Production Remains Flat in 2018

According to the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the nation’s production of nonwoven fabrics in 2018 decreased by 0.1% from the previous year to 342,831 tons. Production decreased for dry-laids (down 0.5% to 307,849 tons), but increased for wet-laids (up 4.1% to 34,982 tons) Among dry-laids, production increased for needle-punched (up 3.3% to 75,351 tons) and spunbonded/meltblown (up 6.8% to 51,138 tons).

Teijin to Acquire Renegade of U.S.

Teijin Limited has agreed to acquire Renegade Materials Corporation, a leading North American supplier of highly heat-resistant thermoset prepregs for the aerospace industry. Renegade will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Teijin. The shares of Renegade will be purchased by Teijin Holdings USA Inc., the Teijin Group’s holding company in the U.S. The acquisition is anticipated to be completed this spring after customary closing conditions have been satisfied including receipt of regulatory approvals. Teijin will benefit from Renegade’s well-established proprietary technologies and solution capabilities in heat-resistant thermoset prepregs to expand its business in the aerospace field including next-generation aircraft engine parts. Japan’s Cotton Yarn & Fabric Imports Decrease in 2018

According to a report compiled by the Japan Spinners’ Association on the basis of Ministry of Finance trade statistics, the nation’s imports of cotton yarn and cotton fabrics decreased in 2018. Cotton yarn imports in 2018 decreased by 3.9% from the previous year to 263,380 bales. (1 bale = 181.436 kg) Of this, carded yarn fell 10.9% to 135,209 bales, whereas combed yarn rose by 4.7% to 128,171 bales. These figures indicate that domestically made textile goods for the high-class zone increased, while products made with general-purpose yarns decreased.
