According to production statistics released from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the nation’s production of car seats, seatbelts and airbag modules decreased in 2019.
2019 production of car seats decreased by 2.9% compared to the previous year to 22,553,015 seats, and that of seatbelts declined by 0.6% to 49,959,537 belts. The production of airbag modules was down 3.0% to 34,257,532 modules.
Car seat production decreased for the first time since 2014, and seatbelt production decreased for the third consecutive year. Airbag module production declined for two straight years.
