According to statistics compiled by The Japan Textiles Importers Association based on Ministry of Finance trade statistics, the nation’s imports of apparel in May 2018 increased by 13.0% compared to the same month of last year to 326.82 million units valued at 195,739 million yen (up 13.9%). The import volume and value increased for the second consecutive month.
May imports of woven garments grew 17.3% and 14.9% respectively to 131.30 million units worth 106,643 million yen, and those of knitwear rose 10.6% and 12.9% respectively to 205.52 million units valued at 89,096 million yen.
Apparel imports from China increased by 11.0% and 10.7% respectively to 217.25 million units worth 118,768 million yen.
