At a press conference held on October 18th in Tokyo, Andrea Boragno, Chairman and CEO of Alcantara S.p.A., disclosed plans to replace all of its materials with renewable resources.

According to Chairman Boragno, investments of 22 million euro have been made in 2016, of which seven million euro have been used for sustainability-related activities. The company will start replacing polyester with biomass-derived materials from the end of this year with an aim to switch all of the materials it uses to renewable resources by 2020.

In addition, the company plans to use 68% of the 28 million euro to be invested in 2017 for process improvements for reducing environmental impact.

Alcantara will also promote activities that seek the respect and observance of human rights, labor standards and environment within the company as well as among its customers including Italian processing companies.
