According to a Japan Textile Machinery Association report based on statistics released from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Ministry of Finance, the nation’s production of textile machinery in 2016 increased by 12.5% over the previous year to 199,834 million yen.

2016 production decreased for fiber making machinery (down 63.7% to 5,621 million yen), weaving preparatory equipment (down 19.8% to 30,609 million yen), dyeing and finishing machinery (down 3.9% to 6,125 million yen) and other machinery (down 34.3% to 3,704 million yen), but increased for spinning machinery (up 72.5% to 17,660 million yen), weaving machines (up 12.0% to 49,671 million yen) and knitting machines (up 50.8% to 86,444 million yen).

Textile machinery exports remained flat at 214,494 million in 2016 (up 0.1%), and imports decreased by 8.7% to 34,914 million yen.

Exports increased for fiber making machinery (up 1.3% to 6,336 million yen), weaving machines (up 13.1% to 53,769 million yen), knitting machines (up 12.3% to 62,001 million yen) and dyeing and finishing machinery (up 13.0% to 8,952 million yen).
