Hong Kong’s Textile & Apparel Exports & Imports Decrease at Smaller Rates

According to statistics released from the Hong Kong Census & Statistics Department, the Special Administrative Region’s trade in textile fibers, textiles and apparel in 2017 posted smaller decreases in exports and imports compared to 2016 values. Domestic exports of textile fibers and textiles (yarn, fabrics and made-ups) increased over the previous year. 2017 imports of textile fibers, textiles and apparel decreased by 4.8% compared to the previous year to HK$152,880 million, while domestic exports of the same items dropped 15.1% to HK$928 million. The decreases were respectively 11.1 and 8.3 percentage points smaller than in 2016. Of this, domestic exports of textile fibers and textiles increased by 8.3% and 7.2%

Hokuriku Fabric Production Down 1.1% in 2017

Fabric production in the three Hokuriku prefectures of Fukui, Ishikawa and Toyama decreased by 1.1% in 2017 compared to the previous year to 504.83 million square meters. Production in Fukui increased by 0.2% to 189.23 million square meters, while it decreased in Ishikawa (down 2.0% to 270.75 million square meters) and Toyama (down 0.6% to 44.86 million square meters). By type of material, the production of polyester filament fabrics rose by 0.6% to 350.79 million square meters, while that of nylon filament fabrics decreased by 0.6% to 78.16 million square meters.
